My point is...

After reading two comments from previous blog. Obviously, they didn't read between the lines. My point is that everybody are entitled to make decision for themselves and their children without being attacked by others. That includes people who chose to use either one of many options that we have avaiable to us.

"I tell you..some are deaf people protects ASL and culture since SOME oral, cued, CI, etc ARE ATTACKING deaf people who advocated."

Many people can say the same thing for the people who use ASL. Anyway, the point is that all communication methods are equal no matter what... They all have their pros and cons... I am tired of how people would claim that one is better over the other which is not true at all.

But guess what... Everybody are biased no matter what.

I was told that I am too young to understand. It doesn't matter how old you or I am because experiences is what make people understand what's going on. And I have experienced all three worlds in depth that I can understand their perspectives also agree with some of their philosophy while I disagree at the same time.

The bottom line is people will not change until people see thing differently.
I had a very interesting discussion with deaf guy name Phillip. He's graduate of MSSD and I will have to say that he's very interesting person. We discussed many topics like education for the deaf, cochlear implant, and various perspectives of people on certain topics. One thing we discussed was how people would make up their mind about various topics even if they don't know very much about the topic in depth. Also, how people are not willing to open up their mind and accept the facts that proved their opinions wrong. We discussed about that because  I noticed how various people in the Deaf community do that with cochlear implant, other options for communication methods, and anything that they perceive as threat to their "culture and values." I, myself have encountered people who are like that and they usually use the facts that are outlandish, myths, and common misconception. When I say thing that contradict their belief, it's like feeding the woods to the fire because most people are unwilling to listen. That's the big problem in the community.

Phillip admitted that he used to be ASL militant  but his perspective changed once he saw the light of the truth. Don't get me wrong that ASL is not good thing or whatever. But it's not the ONLY best option for everybody because ASL is not for everybody. I have met many parents who researched every options and opted for oral, sign language, or cued speech. but those who chose oral or cued speech are the one who face malicious attacks from the Deaf people, which is UNNECESSARY. Those people don't deserve that at all. That's why there is a HUGE gap between deaf and hearing people.

Also among the deaf people...

I am in Seattle/Portland for my partner for his 30th birthday. Anyway, I was reading several posts... I have to say that I am very annoyed by one blogger (the name will remains anonymous) and his attempts to make that people with implants or who don't sign at all or very well are ignorant or has done any unspeakable crimes against ASL. I also am tired of his bashing against other communication methods or technology like implant. I wasn't raised with ASL at all until I learned how to sign in high school. Does it make me outcast like that I was missing out informations when I don't use sign language...

W-R-O-N-G!

I had 100% access to the information via implant/cued speech. I know and believe that it's same for those people who don't sign.

It's funny how people want a unity in the community... Well, it's not going to happen for very long time.

And I am not going to lose a night of sleep over that

My thought and feeling...

After reading various blogs on Deafread.com about various topics but I usually don't comment on blogs very much. One topic that I can see that it's still a hot topic.... Cochlear implant....

It's well known fact that I am bilateral implant receipent. I had several surgeries for my cochlear implants... Some are not my choice but most are my decision. The decision of going bilateral is totally mine.

Anyway, after reading various blogs and comments. To be honest with you all, I feel like I am being rejected and have no part in the deaf community. (I know that many people said they are cool with people with cochlear implant.... BUT actions speak louder than words.. Most of those bloggers' action proved me that they are, at least having some issues with people who have implant) Yes, I have friends that are hearing and deaf. I also do sign very well. I even have a Deaf life partner who prefer to use ASL which is NO problem with me. I also cue and speak.

Basically the messages I am getting that I am not 100% welcome to be part of the deaf community just because I have two computer chips in my head that help me to hear while hearing aids will never benefit me at all since I am profoundly deaf.

I have heard of the concept of deafhood. But when is that ever going to happen for real?
